The whole nuru massage depends on one thing: the gel. Without it, a nuru is just a body slide; with it, the session becomes weightless and frictionless in a way nothing else replicates. So what exactly is nuru gel?
What Nuru Gel Is Made Of
Traditional nuru gel is made from nori seaweed (the same family as the seaweed used in sushi). It’s a clear, water-based gel that is:
- Extremely slippery — far more than oil, with almost no friction,
- Odourless and tasteless,
- Cool to the touch, which adds to the intensity,
- Easy to rinse off with warm water afterwards.
Good nuru gel is skin-friendly and washes away cleanly, leaving no oily residue.
Why It Makes Nuru So Intense
Oil reduces friction; nuru gel almost eliminates it. When your masseuse coats you both and begins the slide, skin glides over skin with virtually no resistance — that’s the “weightless” feeling people describe. It’s the reason a nuru massage feels so different from an oil or soapy massage.
Is Nuru Gel Safe?
Quality seaweed-based nuru gel is gentle on skin and widely used. At Bangkok Bunny we use good gel, warmed before it’s applied, and everything is clean and prepared fresh for each session. If you have very sensitive skin, just mention it when you book.
Nuru Gel vs Soap
Soapy massage uses foam and a warm bath; nuru uses cool gel and no bath. Different feel entirely — we compare them in soapy vs nuru.
